GCSE Results - Maths and English up again.

GCSEResultsStaff and students at Thomas Hardye were delighted to see results in maths and English rising yet again: 78% of students achieved grade C or above in maths and 80% in English; a remarkable 89% achieved a pass in English Literature! The number of students achieving 5 passes at grade C or above including English and maths was 68%, in line with last year’s excellent result. 10 students achieved all their passes at grade A/A* and both Ada Barume and Lucy Harron managed 11 A*’s!

Another excellent year of A level results.

A level resultsThomas Hardye students were celebrating again after another excellent year of A level Results. In A2 we had a 97% pass rate and 100% pass rate in 34 subjects. 36% of students gained A*/A grades, with 83% gaining A*-C grades. Seventy five students achieved A A B or better and 35 achieved at least 3 A* grades at A2. [More]

Year 9 Rounders Team Qualify for Dorset Schools Championships

roundersThe Year 9 rounders team recently qualified to represent West Dorset at The Dorset Schools Championships. The girls played five games in a tough pool, winning 4 in convincing fashion and only narrowly losing to Parkstone Gammar by half a rounder.  [More]

THS Students to work with Science students in Japan

wasabiFour year 12 students from the Thomas Hardye School are off to Japan this summer, to work with Japanese students on science projects at the University of Tohoku, Sendai. They have been doing some teambuilding activities with Mr Richmond, who will be taking 4 students to the University of Cambridge for the UK leg of these 2014 UK Japan Young Scientist Workshops    [More]

Year 9 Student wins History Fiction award

harryYear 9 student, Harry Arnold, has been chosen as one of the winners of the Historical Association Historical Fiction Competition 2014.  His story ‘Brutality’ (based on the opening days of the Battle of the Somme), was selected as one of the 6 winning stories from over 100 entries from across the country.    [More]

Students attend Culinary Masterclass

MasterclassFifteen lucky year 10 Food and Nutrition students recently had the chance to work extend their cookery skills, by taking part in a Culinary Master class, run by the Enterprise and Skills Company.  The Head chef from the four star Bournemouth Marriott Hotel, came to educate the students in the art of gutting, descaling, filleting and cooking whole lemon sole.  [More]

Middle School Students come to Thomas Hardye for workshops in Art and Dance

dancersRecently, 30 gifted and talented students came from the three middle schools in DASP to the Thomas Hardye school Art Department to work with Jane Chapman and Tim Warnes. Chapman and Warnes are two Dorset based illustrators with international success. [More]

Thomas Hardye celebrates students' achievements

PrizegivingThomas Hardye School's annual prizegiving ceremonies recently took place in the School Theatre over two nights. Guest speaker at both events was Rachael Chadwick. Rachael is the daughter of Dorchester Middle School's Headteacher, Paul Chadwick.[More]

Futures Day inspires Sixth Form

futures dayAt the end of June, 40 local Dorset based visitors ran workshops for students to inform them of what their jobs involved and what they looked for in their employees. The Thomas Hardye Sixth Form were very fortunate to have support and input from Andrew Roberts Wray the Headteacher of Sunninghill  School, who also chairs the Dorset Beacon network.[More]

WindsurfingThe Thomas Hardye School windsurfing team took a very respectable 5th place in the windsurfing section at the Sainsbury’s  Dorset School Games recently. Pathways and BTEC Students working hard to raise funds for charity

dance groupYear 10 and 12 Dance students enjoyed a performance and workshop from RISE Dance Company who visited the school on Thursday 12 June. The piece for four dances cleverly intertwined four stories, each based on receiving a letter. In the workshop, students were taught repertoire which challenged their performance skills.  [More]
