Student Voices

Get your opinions heard... Speak to your year rep or submit an original video or piece of written work to the Web Team for publication on the school's website.

The Student Voice and Sports Voice teams have been very busy over the last term and have jointly applied and been successful in twinning the school as part of the BBC Olympic Dreams project. The basis of the project is to twin a School from the UK with a school internationally that have/has had an Olympic athlete attend the school. Athletes such as Usain Bolt, combined with his old school in Jamaica are part of the programme. The Application was done by a selection of Year 9/10/11 pupils from Thomas Hardye School and the theme of the work submitted was the idea of sharing the Olympic Dream within DASP, so that children of all school ages could benefit.

Following our successful application, The Thomas Hardye School has been twinned with the Doon School in India. The athlete involved is ex Doon pupil Abhinav Bindra (World and Olympic 10m Air Rifle Shooting Champion)

Representatives from Thomas Hardye School attended a conference in London to meet a member of staff and a pupil  from the Doon school and also all the other schools and people involved in the scheme. The Programme allows the school to create a link both in terms of Sport and Culture in the build up towards the 2012 Olympics. The scheme has started a partnership between the two schools with the pupils planning to make videos about their school lives to share with each others schools. Also each school will be setting monthly sport challenges leading up to the Olympics, as part of a fun interactive competition. The first challenge set by THS being how many baskets can a pupil score in a minute. The result of which will be posted online for comparison.

On Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th January, a Doon Staff member and pupil visited the Thomas Hardye School to meet pupils and staff and to discuss how we can use the link further. They were shown around the school by Rory and Caroline of the Sports Voice team and attended some lessons during the day.
