The Thomas Hardye School

What a scorcher of a Sports Day!

Sports Day

On Friday 7th July 2017 Thomas Hardye ran their annual Sports Day for both Year 9 and Year 10. All the Department was hoping for was a sunny day after last year’s washout and thankfully our luck was in and what a beautiful day of sport it was. There were lots of events going on this year; from the traditional athletics events of running, throwing and jumping to events on the astro. Also, wing a wellie, space hooper races, 5 a-side football and splat the rat, alongside the Frisbee throwing competition.

Year 9 started off extremely well with 100m heats taking place on the sprint track and the long distance taking place on the main track. In the boys 300m a new record was set by Henry Dipple achieving an outstanding time of 41.03 seconds. In the boys 1500m Dan Horne set a new record achieving a staggering 4:43.03, beating the previous record by 7 seconds. Records were also being broken in the girl’s events with Jenny Break shaving off 2 seconds on the 300m time achieving an amazing 44.94 seconds. Emily Kaliszewska was 50cm from breaking the discus record. A record breaking start for Year 9’s and students should be commended for their fantastic effort and enthusiasm shown throughout the morning. Results will be announced in presentation assemblies.

In the afternoon it was the turn of our Year 10 students to take centre stage. Students were geared up by the annual sports day dance and the competition between the colleges was fierce. For the boys, Jacob Cox got off to a flying start in the 400m breaking a record set last year to achieve 56.25 seconds. John Steward made sure he won the shot put with his final throw. He cleared the field with a record achieving 12.02 meters. For the girls, Maddy Johnson had a point to prove and she did it with utter style. She now holds the Year 9 and Year 10 record for the 1500m, achieving an outstanding time of 5:04. Eve Montgomerie also broke the shot put record by throwing 9.62m, Sofia Voss broke the Javelin record throwing 27.70m and finally Adelaide Elsom jumped high to beat the high jump record, achieving 1.47m, these girls were simply unstoppable. Again, results will be announced in presentation assemblies.

A fantastic sports day ran this year, with records being smashed across both year groups in numerous events. The students were exceptional and thank you to all staff who helped out to ensure the days ran as smoothly as possible.
