European Day of Languages Celebrated with Cake

Cake stall

On Tuesday 26th September, the Languages department celebrated the European Day of Languages. Tutors across the school took their registers in a language other than English, but the highlight was an internationally themed cake sale at break.

Students had been invited to enter a bake-off style competition and we were overwhelmed by the response. There were some truly fantastic baking skills and artistic flair on display, with 4 cakes winning prizes for their outstanding creativity. Judged by Mr Foley, the winner was Jess Mutch (9DD) with her European themed cake (including a model of the Eiffel Tower in chocolate!), closely followed by Molly Dunne’s (11RW) German cake (with the colours of the flag baked in) and Leonie Parry, Teisha Barrey and Imola Tantrum (9 GM) with their (geographically accurate) edible map of Europe.

A special prize was awarded to Alisha Knott (10 MG) for her incredible ‘delizioso’ spaghetti and meatballs cake, revealing the colours of the Italian flag when cut! We are indebted to all students and staff who baked and delighted to say that we raised £60.60 for the British Heart Foundation.

Thanks are also due to Mrs Atkinson for organising the event. Well done to all involved!
