The Thomas Hardye School

U19 Netball County Tournament Success

Netball Team

On Wednesday 8th November the U19 Netballers went to the County Finals at Bryanston. The sun was shining and the competition was strong from the other schools, with the girls playing in a round robin tournament. There were no semi-finals or finals, so it was all to play for with the top two teams qualifying for the regional tournament.

The girls started strongly drawing their first game 11-11 with Bournemouth School for Girls. They then won their second game against Sherborne Girls School 10-5. Next up THS faced Clayesmore, a firm favourite to win the competition. The game was going goal for goal until the last minute when Clayesmore just pipped THS to take the win 6-4. Nevertheless a great result against a strong opposition. Next up were QE, a school we were close to beating last year, but again our girls just got pipped to the post, narrowly losing 9-7. Finally the last two matches were against Bryanston and Canford, two schools known for their Netball, but they were no match for our girls winning 11-1 and 6-4 respectively.

As the results were getting announced we knew it would be close; taking home 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 narrow losses. Overall THS finished in 3rd position and this is an outstanding achievement for our girls who have worked so hard and it is a pleasure to see them develop into talented young netballers.

Let’s hope the success from our sixth form netball continues when the season starts after Christmas.
