The Thomas Hardye School

Sensational Ski in St Anton

St Anton

Wow, what a half term 41 students had in St Anton, skiing in the most sought after conditions. On Friday 15th February team Thomas Hardye embarked on their 24 hour coach journey in order to hit the slopes for a week of skiing. The long journey was worth every second, because we got to ski in some of the most amazing conditions.

On Sunday morning we started our six days of skiing and students were sorted into advanced, intermediate, beginners one and two groups. The advanced were taking on black runs for their warm up and the beginners were getting familiar with how not to fall off the lift systems.

The groups were treated to a vast variety of slopes, ski areas and tours. Most groups were taken to the highest point in St Anton, the Valluga and got to take in some incredible breathtaking views. The ski conditions were the best we as a school have been treated to. The temperatures reached 5-6 degrees on most days which made the snow perfect to ski on.

During the week the students were treated to curling and ice skating and this tested their ability to remain balanced after a day on the slopes. Alongside this, students went to watch the most fantastic ski show in Ischgl. This involved some of the most advanced young skiers displaying their finest tricks and it was fair to say we all felt inspired to try these on the slopes the next day.

Each day we presented students with four daily awards; this was Mr Long’s favourite part of the day. The awards were for Schnitzel of the slopes, Skier of the day, The most improved skier and The hard nut award. Alongside this students were trying to claim the speed king and queen awards for gaining the highest speed on the slopes. The speed king was Ollie Moffat and the speed queen was Immy Reid reaching some eye watering speed.

Miss Bright would like to thank students and staff for their company and exceptional behaviour on the trip. To quote the ski instructors "these are the best school students we have taught to ski"’ and this is a real credit to the students.

Next year the school will be going to Kitzbuhel, letters will be out very soon.
