The Thomas Hardye School

Thomas Hardye UKLO success!

Olympiad finalists

Last month 13 languages students from years 12 and 13 took part in the UK Linguistics Olympiad at advanced level. This is a phenomenally difficult competition and congratulations are due to all for just taking part (not least for staying after school to do a two-and-a-half-hour test). All students received a well-deserved certificate of participation but I’m delighted to report the following individual successes:

Charles Bone (12JR) received a Silver award in his first UKLO, meaning he came in the top 15% nationally.

Robbie Bennett (12PB) received his second Gold award and was invited to the second round of competition at Birmingham University later this month.

Only 17 of the 1497 entrants were selected for Round 2, so this is an amazing achievement. Robbie will now compete for a place in the UK Team for the International Linguistics Olympiad to take place in South Korea this summer.

Congratulations to all who took part and best of luck to Robbie in Round 2!

Mr Davison
