The Thomas Hardye School

U14 DORSET COUNTY CHAMPIONS

Rounders Champions

On Wednesday 26th June the Year 9 girls rounders team were crowned Dorset County Champions at the Dorset Schools Games Tournament at Bryanston. It was a spectacular day of sport, we arrived at Bryanston early doors, to be greeted by the amazing facilities and of course the ‘free t-shirts’ and Thomas Hardye were representing West Dorset in purple.

The tournament was organised into two pools and we took on Lytchett first, losing our first game. Up next were Colfox, a school we have played before and a win was on the cards. The final two group games were against BSG and St Edwards and after some close fought competition we came out on top. At the end of the group stages Thomas Hardye finished second, progressing through to the semi-finals.

The girls were starting to get excited at the thought of getting to the final; but first an important semi-final against Purbeck School. We batted first and scored a respectable 8 rounders off 20 good balls. However, we had seen Purbeck had some strong hitters but that was nothing for our girls with some outstanding fielding and individual catches we got the entire team out in 14 balls.

Onto the final, Thomas Hardye V Gillingham and were our girls up for it. We won the toss and fielded first and what a polished display of fielding it was with Gillingham only scoring 2 rounders off 20 good balls. Now it was our turn to bat and Gillingham had changed tact to have their team all out fielding with minimal players on bases and credit to them they kept our scoring down to 5 rounders and Thomas Hardye were crowned champions.

It was a fantastic day for all students and staff involved, the girls were a credit to the school and displayed outstanding levels of skill, professionalism and sportsmanship. Miss Bright would like to thank them for their efforts and is one very proud coach.
