The Thomas Hardye School

From success to success

GCSE Results

Following on from last week’s exceptional A level results, Thomas Hardye reached another milestone with record results in maths and English. Despite the introduction of new, more demanding examinations 76% of students achieved 5 passes including English and maths. The school continues to excel in the core subjects whilst offering a broad and balanced curriculum to cater for the full ability range.

76% 5 passes including English and maths
79% 5 passes at grades 4-9
83% pass rate for maths
88% pass rate in English

These results have been achieved during a period of unprecedented change to the examination system and headteacher, Mike Foley, was quick to give credit: “the exam system is being turned upside down, at GCSE and A level, and teachers have done a magnificent job to navigate us through such a turbulent period. Congratulations to all students who have achieved these results following such radical and demanding change. I am particularly pleased that there has been more recognition of the full range of student achievement from grades 1 to 9 this year. The danger of the new system is that it fails to give recognition to those students who have worked really hard but fail to reach a grade 4. As the system develops that problem needs to be addressed”

We were also filmed by the BBC during the morning as a feature for their Breakfast show. Students and staff were interviewed for a live transmission.
